The organization manages large-scale residential, commercial, and IT infrastructure projects and required a modern, scalable cloud platform to support its mission-critical SAP landscape.

Business ChallengeThe customer wanted to transition from traditional infrastructure to a cloud-first SAP environment capable of supporting business-critical workloads with higher scalability, security, and operational reliability. The organization required a high-performance architecture to host SAP Web Dispatcher, SAP Fiori Gateway, SAP Application Servers, SAP HANA Database, and SAP DMS workloads across separate Production, Development, and Quality environments. Additionally, the customer needed secure connectivity between AWS and corporate offices, enterprise-grade backup and disaster recovery mechanisms, centralized monitoring, and governance aligned with ITGC audit compliance requirements.

Goals & ObjectivesThe primary objective was to build a highly available and secure SAP infrastructure on AWS that could deliver enterprise-grade performance, strengthen operational governance, improve audit readiness, and reduce infrastructure management complexity.

Solution ApproachPentagon System & Services designed and implemented a managed AWS infrastructure optimized for SAP workloads using AWS-native services and operational best practices. SAP environments were deployed on Amazon EC2 using high-memory R5 instances optimized for SAP HANA workloads. Separate Production, Development, and Quality environments were created to ensure workload isolation and lifecycle control. A secure Amazon VPC architecture with segmented public and private subnets was implemented across multiple Availability Zones. Site-to-Site VPN connectivity enabled secure communication between AWS and the customer’s Pune and Bangalore offices. For security and data protection, AWS Key Management Service (KMS) was implemented for centralized encryption, while automated backup and recovery mechanisms aligned with defined RPO and RTO objectives were configured using EC2 and SAP HANA snapshots. Amazon S3 was utilized for backup storage, while Amazon EFS provided shared storage for SAP directories and application data.

Implementation ApproachOperational visibility and governance were enhanced using Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Systems Manager, Amazon SNS, and Amazon SES for centralized monitoring, automated alerting, patch management, and proactive incident response. As part of the managed services engagement, Pentagon provided continuous support covering infrastructure monitoring, patch management, incident management, backup validation, performance optimization, security governance, and cost optimization through right-sizing and Reserved Instance planning.

Results

The implementation enabled Kolte-Patil Developers to successfully modernize and stabilize its SAP landscape on AWS with improved scalability, governance, and operational efficiency. The deployed architecture delivered reliable high availability for critical SAP workloads across all environments while strengthening ITGC audit readiness and operational compliance. Infrastructure right-sizing and optimized storage utilization improved cost efficiency without compromising SAP performance. Centralized monitoring and proactive managed services enhanced operational visibility, reduced infrastructure management overhead, and strengthened overall business continuity.
