Their products serve diverse markets including plumbing, water supply, drainage, mining, industrial, rural irrigation, electrical, telecom, and gas, with a global presence in 25+ countries.
The Challenge: As the company scaled globally, its legacy IT infrastructure created several challenges:
Downtime Issues – Frequent outages due to local power failures and system errors resulted in 10–12% business loss. ERP Uptime Demands – Oracle E-Business Suite ERP required higher uptime and reliability. CapEx Constraints – The management wanted to avoid large upfront infrastructure investments and instead shift to OpEx. Inefficient Utilization – ERP servers were underutilized for most of the month but over-stressed during month-end operations. Data Center Limitations – Maintaining an in-house data center was difficult due to management complexity, uptime issues, and lack of skilled IT resources.
The Solution: Pentagon (PSSPL) migrated the customer’s Oracle EBS ERP and Oracle 12c Database to AWS Cloud, ensuring scalability, performance, and security:
Proof of Concept (POC) – Conducted POC on AWS Singapore region to validate performance before full production deployment. 2-Tier Architecture – Application and database deployed in isolated VPC subnets, with NACLs and Security Groups for restricted access. Scalable ERP Hosting – Oracle EBS deployed on EC2 with Auto Scaling and Load Balancer to handle variable workloads. Database Resilience – Oracle 12c migrated to Amazon RDS Multi-AZ with synchronous replication, reducing downtime and latency. Configured Read Replica for read-heavy workloads. Security Enhancements – Deployed AWS WAF for application security and data encryption at rest via KMS. Monitoring & Optimization – Implemented Nagios, CloudWatch, Lambda, and SNS for proactive monitoring, notifications, and automated scaling. Backup & Recovery – Snapshots, scheduled backups, and RMAN for Oracle DB ensured RTO/RPO of 1 hour. Managed Services – Continuous DBA support, cost optimization consulting, and compliance monitoring.
AWS Services Used:
Amazon EC2 with Auto Scaling Amazon RDS (Oracle 12c, Multi-AZ + Read Replica) Amazon VPC, NAT Gateway, Virtual Gateway, S2S VPN Elastic Load Balancer (ELB) Amazon S3, EFS, Snapshots AWS WAF, KMS Amazon CloudWatch, SES, SNS
