Probus Insurance Broker Pvt. Ltd. is one of India’s leading insurance brokers, offering a wide range of life and non-life insurance products. With a pan-India presence, Probus combines deep risk-engineering expertise, customized audit systems, and strong claims management techniques.

Leveraging its offline network and a growing online platform, Probus is committed to becoming one of the most respected insurance brokers in the country.

The Challenge: Probus needed to modernize its IT infrastructure to support its growing online portal and mobile app. Their key challenges included:
  • Performance Issues – Applications faced degradation under heavy load, with no load balancing in place.
  • Backup Inefficiencies – Relied on HDDs and tape drives for data and database backups, creating high overhead and slow recovery.
  • Scalability Gaps – Systems lacked flexibility to efficiently handle traffic surges and increasing users.
  • Disaster Recovery Risks – No robust failover or recovery plan in case of regional service failures.
  • Manual Maintenance – MSSQL database required manual patching and snapshot management.
  • Security Concerns – Public-facing applications lacked advanced threat protection.

The Solution: Pentagon migrated Probus workloads to AWS Cloud and implemented a secure, high-availability architecture:
  • Application Layer
    • Deployed Application Load Balancer (ALB) to distribute traffic across Auto Scaling groups in multiple Availability Zones.
    • Secured the web tier with AWS WAF to block malicious traffic and bots.

  • Database Layer
    • Migrated to Amazon RDS for MS-SQL Standard Edition in a Multi-AZ configuration for high availability.
    • Automated backups and patching reduced operational overhead.

  • Backup & Storage
    • Configured EBS snapshots & AMI backups for fast recovery.
    • Moved local database and application backups to Amazon S3 for unlimited, cost-effective storage.

  • Monitoring & Alerts
    • Set up Amazon CloudWatch for real-time monitoring and CPU utilization tracking.
    • Integrated Amazon SES to send OTPs and event-based emails.

  • Security & Connectivity
    • Enhanced protection with AWS GuardDuty for intelligent threat detection.
    • Deployed Site-to-Site VPN and NAT Gateway for secure connectivity.
    • Enforced role-based access using IAM policies.

  • Cost Optimization
    • Automated start/stop schedules with AWS Lambda, aligning EC2 uptime with business hours.

AWS Services Used:
  • Amazon EC2, EBS, S3
  • Amazon RDS (MS-SQL)
  • Elastic Load Balancer (ALB)
  • Amazon VPC, VGW, NAT Gateway, IGW
  • AWS WAF, GuardDuty
  • IAM
  • CloudWatch, CloudTrail
  • AWS Backup, SES, Lambda
