Established over two decades ago, this leading diamond manufacturer and global exporter has earned an international reputation for its ethical practices, superior craftsmanship, and transparent business operations. Known for pioneering the concept of fixed and fair pricing, the company sources directly from industry leaders such as DTC, Rio Tinto, DDC, and Alrosa, and is an official supplier for Canada Mark and ForeverMark. With over 6,000 employees, the company stands as the only Indian sight holder to receive the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) Certification, and a 14-time consecutive GJEPC Award winner for excellence in manufacturing and exports. To expand its market presence and tap into new global opportunities, the company embarked on a digital transformation journey to launch an online jewelry business powered by AWS Cloud.

The Challenge The leadership team recognized that expanding into the Southeast Asian online market required a robust, flexible, and secure IT foundation. However, their legacy infrastructure was not equipped to meet these demands. Key challenges identified included:
  • Limited Agility and Scalability: Provisioning new resources for testing and production environments took time and lacked flexibility.
  • Infrastructure Compatibility: The web-based application, developed in Java with Oracle 11g Database, required a platform capable of handling Oracle workloads efficiently.
  • Security Concerns: Jewelry designs and payment data were critical business assets, demanding high levels of encryption, identity management, and controlled access.
  • Resource Constraints: The internal IT team needed rapid deployment capabilities without heavy capital investment or dependency on dedicated infrastructure teams.
The customer sought a cost-effective, scalable, and secure cloud solution that could accelerate time-to-market while ensuring data protection and operational resilience.

The Solution After evaluating multiple technology providers, the customer selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its proven agility, scalability, and global reach. Partnering with Pentagon System & Services Pvt. Ltd. (PSSPL), the project team designed a comprehensive cloud migration plan to host the company’s Java and Oracle-based application on AWS. Implementation Highlights
  • Proof of Concept (PoC):PSSPL conducted a 4-day PoC to validate performance benchmarks and security configurations for the application stack on AWS. The successful trial led to full-scale deployment within one month.
  • Three-Tier Architecture:Implemented a 3-tier architecture across Web, Application, and Database layers using Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) for network isolation and control.
  • Compute and Storage:Deployed Amazon EC2 instances within VPC subnets and configured Amazon EBS for persistent storage.
  • Database Modernization:Configured Oracle Database 11g on Amazon RDS (Single-AZ) with automated daily backups and a 15-day retention policy, simplifying database management.
  • Secure Connectivity:Established a site-to-site VPN tunnel between the customer’s on-premises environment and AWS to enable encrypted communication.
  • Data Backup & Storage:Utilized Amazon S3 for storing backups and application data with built-in redundancy and high availability.
  • Security Configuration:Applied Network Access Control Lists (NACLs), Security Groups, and IAM roles to control permissions and encrypt sensitive workloads.

AWS Services Used
  • Amazon EC2 – Compute infrastructure for application hosting
  • Amazon RDS (Oracle) – Managed relational database for Oracle workloads
  • Amazon S3 – Backup and storage of application data
  • Amazon VPC – Isolated virtual network for secure deployment
  • Amazon EBS – Persistent block storage for EC2 instances
  • AWS Transit Gateway – Connecting on-premises VPN with AWS VPC
  • AWS IAM – Role-based identity and access management

Benefits

Faster Time-to-Market

The project achieved a go-live within one month, enabling the company to test, deploy, and scale its new jewelry platform rapidly.

Agility and Scalability

AWS’s elastic infrastructure allowed the company to scale resources up or down based on market demand and user traffic, ensuring cost optimization and performance balance.

Cost Efficiency

By shifting from CapEx to OpEx, the company saved 70% in upfront infrastructure costs, reallocating capital towards business expansion initiatives.

Enhanced Security

Robust IAM controls, encryption mechanisms, and VPN-secured connectivity ensured complete protection for critical business data, payment information, and proprietary designs.

Higher Availability

Real-time DR and high-performance storage ensured uninterrupted customer services.

Operational Focus

With AWS managing infrastructure, the IT team could focus on business innovation rather than server maintenance and compliance monitoring.

The Result

By migrating its digital commerce operations to AWS Cloud, the diamond manufacturer achieved faster deployments, stronger data protection, and improved global reach. The scalable infrastructure allowed the company to confidently expand across Southeast Asian markets, bringing the brilliance of its products to a wider audience — securely and efficiently.
